DESCRIPTION:Thousands of residents across the South Coast are expected to participate in the Saturday\, Oct. 18 No Kings national day of protest. The event aims to show that\, in America\, power belongs to the people. \nNo Kings is a grassroots movement that began in June as a peaceful response to a military parade in Washington ordered by then-President Donald Trump. That first protest drew an estimated 5 million people to more than 2\,000 rallies across the country. \nLocal organizers have planned a new round of events for Saturday\, Oct. 18\, from Tiverton to Mattapoisett. Indivisible South Coast New England is a chapter of the national Indivisible movement that supports many. \nEvents are scheduled as follows: \n\nDartmouth: Noon to 2 p.m.\, Route 6 and Faunce Corner Road\nFall River: Noon to 2 p.m.\, Amity Street and William S. Canning Boulevard\nLittle Compton: Noon to 1 p.m.\, Town Green\, Commons Street\nMattapoisett: Noon to 3 p.m.\, Corner of North Street and Route 6\nNew Bedford Bridge Brigade: Noon to 2 p.m.\, Pedestrian Overpass\, 1350 Purchase Street\nNew Bedford Buttonwood Rally: Noon to 2 p.m.\, Buttonwood Park\, Rockdale Avenue side\nTiverton: 1 to 2 p.m.\, U.S. Post Office\, 600 Main Road\nWestport: Noon to 2 p.m.\, Main Road and Hixbridge Road\n\nIn June\, three South Coast protests drew more than 1\,000 residents. This month\, eight events are planned. \nOrganizers say the growing number of gatherings reflects a rise in civic engagement and concern about democracy. \nIndivisible South Coast New England describes itself as a nonpartisan group committed to nonviolent action.
