Tonas and nahuales are spiritual beings\, frequently depicted as animals\, believed to guide and guard individuals throughout life. \nRicardo Ángeles of the Ángeles family workshop in Oaxaca leads the session. Traveling from Mexico\, he continues a carving tradition advanced by master artists Jacobo and María Ángeles\, whose work appears in the exhibition. \nParticipants will paint a small wooden nahualito using a provided kit that includes a pre-carved figure\, acrylic paints\, brushes\, and tools. Ángeles will demonstrate traditional techniques such as fine-line brushing and pointillism\, and explain the symbolism behind common Zapotec patterns.

DESCRIPTION:The Buzzards Bay Coalition’s annual Seal and Seabird Cruise is on March 14 at 10 a.m. The two-hour trip explores Buzzards Bay and Vineyard Sound in partnership with the Cuttyhunk Ferry Company.\n\nThis is a chance to observe seals and seabirds in their natural habitat while learning about marine mammals and visiting species. The program includes seabird identification and counting\, seal observation with commentary at Gull Island\, and a 45-minute guided walk on Cuttyhunk Island to the Town Center and Lookout Park. A brief stop at Lookout Park offers scenic views from the island’s highest point. Limited binoculars are available.\n\nThe fee is $50 per person and $35 for children younger than 12.\n\nIn case of bad weather\, the cruise will be rescheduled for the following day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information\, email Baptista@savebuzzardsbay.org.

DESCRIPTION:Last call to register for a workshop with artist George Summers Jr. “Keeping an Artist Journal from the Queer Perspective” on Saturday\, March 14\, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marion Art Center. Lunch and basic supplies are included. Advance registration is required through the Marion Art Center website. \nBoston-based artist and educator George Summers Jr. leads this practical session exploring journaling and sketchbook practices as tools for imaginative expression and personal storytelling. Participants will experiment with writing\, sketching\, collage\, and mixed media while developing ways to document identity and lived experience through art. \nSummers has more than 35 years of experience in batik and textile arts. His work shows a career defined by the Boston arts community and his perspective as a gay artist. Materials and adhesives are provided. The caucus is at the Our Lady of Angels Band Club. Doors open at 1 p.m.\n\nRegistered and pre-registered Democrats in New Bedford who will be at least 16 by March 29 may vote and run as delegates or alternates. Youth ages 16 to 35\, people with disabilities\, people of color\, veterans\, and members of the\n\nLGBTQ+ community who are not elected are encouraged to apply as add-on delegates at the caucus or at massdems.org.\n\nThe 2026 State Democratic Convention is set for May 30 at the DCU Center in Worcester.
