DESCRIPTION:New Bedford Science Café will meet on Tuesday\, Dec. 2\, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Last Round Bar & Grille. Seth Lederman\, MD\, CEO of Tonix Pharmaceuticals\, will speak on the story behind a new FDA-approved fibromyalgia drug. Tonix operates a biologics manufacturing facility in the New Bedford Business Park. \nTonix received approval for the drug Tonmya in August. It is the first new fibromyalgia treatment in more than 15 years. Fibromyalgia affects millions of adults and has been challenging to treat because of its varied symptoms. Lederman will connect the well-known fairytale “The Princess and the Pea” to the condition’s sensitivity and explain how researchers brought the drug from concept to approval. \nLederman earned his medical degree from Columbia University and taught there for two decades. He directed research in immunology\, infectious disease\, and autoimmune disease. \nFree parking is available behind the building. Recent event videos are on the Science Café website.

The story examines scriptural accounts of the birth of Jesus and considers what it means for that story to resonate in daily life.

Live shows feature original songs and classics from The Band. Audiences also hear selections tied to the Grateful Dead\, the Allman Brothers\, and Bob Dylan. \nBand members include Brian Mitchell on keyboards and vocals\, bassist Albert Rogers\, drummer Michael Bram\, and keyboardist Matt Zeiner. Weider calls their shared style the “Woodstock Sound\,” and the group continues to carry it forward.
