SUMMARY:Wainer Woods Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Westport natives Merri Cyr and Chief Nij-Pajikwat-Mo`z (Chief Two Running Elk)\, also known as Robert Cox\, are creating the town’s first sculpture of an Eastern Woodlands Indian. It will be installed at Wainer Woods Farm. \nThe exhibition previews the monument and shows the artists’ process. Photographs styled by Cyr and the Chief shaped the sculpture’s stance and mood. The final work will be a larger-than-life\, 3D-printed bronze sculpture. Reproductions of ritual objects\, researched and designed by the Chief\, are also on display. \nChief Two Running Elk is a descendant of the Wainer and Cuffe families\, who have owned the farm for more than 200 years. He plans to make Wainer Woods a community space and educational center. Artist residencies\, a food forest\, a seed-saving farm\, and an orchard are part of the vision. \nThe exhibition runs Oct. 9–Nov. 23. Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students.

DESCRIPTION:Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management is reminding residents to keep pumpkins and cornstalks out of the trash this season. DESCRIPTION:The New Bedford Whaling Museum and the Bristol County Sheriff’s Office will open Bristol County: Incarcerated on Oct. 24. The exhibit traces the history of local incarceration from the 18th-century jail in Taunton to New Bedford’s Ash Street Jail. The Ash Street facility is the oldest continuously operating jail in the nation. \nArtifacts include the Taunton jail’s debtor book from 1785 and Lizzie Borden’s 1892 mittimus. Visitors will also see 1920s inmate photographs\, 19th-century jail logs\, and materials from the sheriff’s office archives. \nThe exhibit was curated by Melanie Botvin with research by Henry Claudy\, a New York University graduate student. \nThe New Bedford Whaling Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In his keynote\, “Solar\, Society\, and the Shifting Climate\,” he discusses solar energy\, climate justice\, and the power of community. He blends data\, stories\, and hope to offer both insight and direction. \nThe keynote concludes a two-day climate program at the Whaling Museum. It follows the Climate Future Film Festival on Friday\, October 24. McKibben appears in the film program as an honorary judge before speaking in person the following evening.
