SUMMARY:Artistic Luminaries: Three Local Icons Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Artistic Luminaries: Three Local Icons exhibit is on view from December 11 through February 23\, 2026. Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and students. \nFor decades\, friends Willoughby Bill Elliott\, Severin Sig Haines\, and Marc St. Pierre shaped studios and classrooms at the Swain School of Design and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Their work and teaching helped define the South Coast’s creative identity. That influence continues today. \nElliott’s landscapes focused on light\, perception\, and change. St. Pierre combined maps\, geometry\, and gesture. His teaching balanced structure with chance. Haines explored landscape through color and form. His work showed how emotion and structure can coexist. \nTeaching grew from studio practice. Discipline and curiosity mattered. Students learned to make art and to think more deeply about how they see the world.

SUMMARY:Ahab’s Head: American Vengeance
DESCRIPTION:Ahab’s Head: American Vengeance opens December 13 at the New Bedford Whaling Museum. The new installation is by Boston artist and sculptor Heidi Whitman. It is an immersive look at obsession\, power\, and the American whaling story. \nWhitman is known for intricate “mental maps” that explore emotion\, memory\, and place. She applies that style to Moby-Dick. She reimagines Ahab’s pursuit as a layered map of fixation. Paper\, shadow\, and structure trace themes of violence and mania in the novel and in America today. \nHer work has appeared at the Addison Gallery of American Art\, the Fitchburg Art Museum\, and the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art. It is held in museum\, public\, and corporate collections such as the Federal Reserve\, Boston Public Library\, and the McMullen Museum of Art. She received a Mass Cultural Council fellowship in 2021. \nAhab’s Head ties together maritime history\, literature\, and contemporary art\, presenting the story through a modern lens.

SUMMARY:The Salvation Army: Call for donations
DESCRIPTION:With one week left until Christmas\, the Salvation Army Massachusetts Division is urging residents to support the Red Kettle Campaign. \nDonations are down about 24 percent from last year as inflation and housing costs continue to strain families.
