DESCRIPTION:The Crime of the Century follows the final moments before the 1936 execution of Bruno Richard Hauptmann\, the German immigrant convicted in the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh’s infant son. \nBased on real events\, the play revisits one of the most famous trials in American history. As Hauptmann prepares for the electric chair\, he retells his story while six prison guards portray more than 30 characters through a series of flashbacks. The production asks whether Hauptmann was guilty or wrongly executed. \nLawrence R. Houbre Jr. directs the production. \nAuditions are Monday\, June 15\, and Wednesday\, June 17\, at 6:30 p.m. Callbacks\, if needed\, are Saturday\, June 20\, at 1 p.m. \nPerformances run Nov. 6 to 15\, 2026. \nAuditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Those auditioning should arrive at Steeple Playhouse at one of the scheduled times and enter through the east door facing the city parking lot. Auditions are open to all.

Projects may include mugs\, plates\, and sculpted pieces with unique shapes and details. The class also introduces molds and other methods that enable greater creativity and flexibility.\n\nThe course works well for beginners and for those with wheel-throwing experience who want to try something different and build new skills.

DESCRIPTION:NEW BEDFORD — The city of New Bedford is pleased to announce the opening of the Swap Shop\,  a new initiative at the New Bedford Recycling Center that allows residents to drop off and pick up reusable items\, for free. \nThe Swap Shop\, located at 1103 Shawmut Ave.\, is  accepting donations of gently used items\, specifically: books\, tableware (such as dishes and silverware)\, cookware\, and bakeware (like pots\, pans\, and baking sheets). Electronic items and household appliances\, including toasters\, microwaves\, and other plug-in devices\, are not accepted at this time. \nHow it works: \n• All items are free to take.\n• Donations are limited to three items per day and must be approved by a Recycling Center attendant before being dropped off.\n• Items must be clean\, functional\, and in a condition you’d be proud to give—or pleased to receive.\n• The city reserves the right to refuse any item for any reason\, regardless of condition or category.
