DESCRIPTION:Hum\, a new quartet\, will perform Saturday\, April 18\, at 7 p.m. at The Shepherd Center. Tickets are $20 online and $25 at the door. \nThe group features Nina Ott on organ and synthesizers\, Steve Fell on guitar\, John McKenna on saxophone and synthesizers\, and Chris Lopes on drums and percussion. \nTheir sound is rooted in jazz. Performances mix original pieces with improvisation\, including music by Thelonious Monk. \nElectronic and acoustic sounds blend throughout. McKenna also uses playable sculptures he has built\, adding a visual element. \nThe group recently performed on WGBH’s JazzNow before a live audience.

He is also a songwriter and storyteller.
