DESCRIPTION:Lift Us Up: The Remix comes to Gallery X in New Bedford on Saturday\, April 4\, at 1 p.m. Admission is free\, though RSVPs are encouraged. \nSpoken word artists Iva Brito\, Hendrick Hernandez-Resto\, Maia Livramento and Gabriel Johnson take the stage alongside musicians from the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra and Malian drummer Sidy Maiga — a pairing that promises something genuinely unexpected. \nBuilding on an ongoing celebration of African Americans and other communities of color\, the program weaves poetry and music into something that feels both rooted and alive. \nExpect an afternoon that moves; spoken word and symphonic sound woven together\, honoring where we’ve been while making space for what’s next. \nPresented in partnership with the New Bedford Historical Society and the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Playback Theatre: A form of storytelling and Improv
DESCRIPTION:The Introduction to Playback Theatre covers storytelling through improvisation. Sessions cost $15 to $30 with a sliding fee. \nThis four-week workshop introduces Playback Theatre as a way to spark creativity and build community. Participants learn how to transform personal stories into spontaneous scenes using movement\, music\, ritual\, and spoken improvisation. The process is based on listening\, sharing\, and bringing lived experiences to life. \nStories shape how people understand the world and one another. Recent years have challenged many communities. This workshop provides a place to play\, connect\, and reflect through shared storytelling. \nPlayback Theatre helps develop empathy\, intuition\, creativity\, and communication skills. It is used in a wide range of settings. The workshop is open to ages 16 and older. No theatre experience is required. Participants should wear loose clothing. \nThe group meets on Wednesdays in March on March 4\, 11\, 18\, and 25 in the Douglas Room at Gallery X.
