DESCRIPTION:Proteanna: Susan Heideman is on view at the New Bedford Whaling Museum from May 29 through Nov. 1. The exhibition features large-scale mixed-media works by Heideman inspired by ocean life and imagined underwater forms. His research focuses on slavery\, labor\, capitalism\, and material culture. \nPublished in 2024\, ” Plantation Goods” examines the economic ties between Northern manufacturing and Southern slavery. The book traces everyday goods made in the North for use on Southern plantations\, including clothing\, tools\, and shoes. \n“Plantation Goods” was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in History and won the 2025 Philip Taft Labor History Book Award.
