DESCRIPTION:A kite-making workshop\, “Let’s Go Fly a Kite\,” is on Saturday\, May 16\, from 10 a.m. to noon. Admission is $45. \nParticipants will create a large personalized diamond kite complete with a tail and wind telltale. They can choose ripstop nylon colors and decorate the kite with paint or nylon shapes. Simple designs such as flowers\, butterflies\, and ladybugs are encouraged. \nAfter making the kite\, students will head to Fort Taber Park to fly their creations. \nAdults may make a kite on their own or with a child. One kite is included per adult-child pair. Additional kites are $25.

DESCRIPTION:Opening of the Bay\, the Community Boating Center’s annual fundraiser\, is May 9\, 2026. from 6 to 10 p.m. The celebration will be at Kilburn Mill\, with views of Clarks Cove and the center’s waterfront campus \nProceeds support programs that help young people spend time on the water. Sailing\, mentorship\, and leadership development are the focus. The goal is to help kids grow\, both on and off the water. \nTickets include dinner\, dancing\, and a silent auction. It also marks the start of the sailing season. Funds raised support scholarships for the Summer Youth Sailing Program\, which serves ages 5 to 24. In 2025\, 88 percent of participants received financial aid. That support helps more young people participate. \nThe Community Boating Center offers hands-on learning and guidance. Programs are designed to build confidence\, teamwork\, and leadership over time.
