DESCRIPTION:With one week left until Christmas\, the Salvation Army Massachusetts Division is urging residents to support the Red Kettle Campaign. \nDonations are down about 24 percent from last year as inflation and housing costs continue to strain families. Demand for services has increased statewide. \nRed Kettle funds support Christmas meals and gifts\, emergency rent and utility assistance\, and shelter. All donations stay in the communities where they are collected. Volunteer bell ringers typically raise enough to provide nearly 250 meals in their towns. \nThe organization serves every ZIP code in Massachusetts and is seeking support across the state. \nThe Massachusetts Division aims to raise more than $2.3 million through the “Give With Joy” Red Kettle Campaign. Donations are accepted at Red Kettles and online at salvationarmyma.org/redkettle.

For many families in Greater New Bedford\, putting a holiday meal on the table can be a challenge.\n\nPACE Community Food Center is collecting donations from Dec. 1 through Dec. 15 to support local families. Drop-offs are accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 477 Park St. in New Bedford. \n\nNeeded items include turkeys\, hams\, or roasts\, grocery gift cards\, canned goods and vegetables\, boxed sides\, dessert mixes\, juice\, potatoes\, yams\, sweet potatoes\, and other holiday items. Ethnic foods are welcome. \n\nDonations support families in New Bedford\, Fairhaven\, Dartmouth\, Acushnet\, Marion\, Mattapoisett\, and Rochester.\nUnable to drop off items.
