SUMMARY:Annual Earth Day Kickoff Cleanup
DESCRIPTION:Operation Clean Sweep will host its annual Earth Day kickoff cleanup Saturday\, April 18. Volunteers\, families\, neighborhood groups\, and community partners will come together for a morning of citywide stewardship. The year marks the start of the group’s 21st season and 20 years of community cleanups in New Bedford.\n\nAs part of the milestone\, organizers will reveal the winning name of the group’s longtime whale mascot. The contest drew strong community participation. Semi-finalists will attend the announcement\, and one will be named the grand prize winner. The name reveal is expected around noon\n\nVolunteers will gather for a brief welcome before heading to cleanup sites across the north end. Participants will return around noon for pizza\, acknowledgments\, prize giveaways\, and the naming ceremony.\n\nThe program runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at a public parking lot behind Cotali Mar Restaurante\, 1178 Acushnet Ave. .
