The book highlights privately owned vessels that attacked British shipping across the Atlantic and along American coasts. Night. \nJusionyte will discuss her book\, “Exit Wounds: How America’s Guns Fuel Violence Across the Border\,” a Massachusetts Book Awards Nonfiction Honors title. She will talk about how firearms purchased in the U.S. make their way into Mexico and the toll that trade takes on communities. Audience Q&A and book signing will follow. \nResearch draws on interviews with federal agents\, arms traffickers\, and people directly affected by border violence. Narrative blends reporting with personal stories. \nThe program is sponsored by the Mass Book Awards Speakers Bureau\, in collaboration with the Massachusetts Center for the Book. \nJusionyte is a legal anthropologist and MacArthur Fellow. She serves as Watson Family University Professor of International Security and Anthropology and directs the Center for Human Rights and Humanitarian Studies at Brown University.

Fuhrer will discuss his book “The Myth That Made Us: How False Beliefs about Racism and Meritocracy Broke Our Economy and How to Fix It” on Thursday\, Feb. 26\, from 1 to 2 p.m. The virtual program is free with registration.\n\nFührer is a nonresident senior fellow in Governance Studies at the Brookings Institution and a foundation fellow with the Eastern Bank Foundation. He previously served as director of research and executive vice president at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and has held roles with the Federal Reserve System and the Harvard Kennedy School.\n\nThe book examines how narratives about race\, meritocracy\, and limited government shaped the U.S. economy and contributed to wealth gaps. The Führer argues that policy changes\, community investment\, and expanded opportunity can help address disparities.
