SUMMARY:The Crime of the Century casting
DESCRIPTION:The Crime of the Century follows the final moments before the 1936 execution of Bruno Richard Hauptmann\, the German immigrant convicted in the kidnapping and murder of Charles Lindbergh’s infant son. \nBased on real events\, the play revisits one of the most famous trials in American history. As Hauptmann prepares for the electric chair\, he retells his story while six prison guards portray more than 30 characters through a series of flashbacks. The production asks whether Hauptmann was guilty or wrongly executed. \nLawrence R. Houbre Jr. directs the production. \nAuditions are Monday\, June 15\, and Wednesday\, June 17\, at 6:30 p.m. Callbacks\, if needed\, are Saturday\, June 20\, at 1 p.m. \nPerformances run Nov. 6 to 15\, 2026. \nAuditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Those auditioning should arrive at Steeple Playhouse at one of the scheduled times and enter through the east door facing the city parking lot. Auditions are open to all.

SUMMARY:Greater New Bedford Choral Society Open Rehearsals
DESCRIPTION:Experience singing with GNBCS. All are welcome\, no are auditions required. Open rehearsals are scheduled for January 6\, 13\, and 20 at 6:30 p.m. This is a chance to see how the chorus works and to decide if membership is the right fit. GNBCS is a non-audition SATB choir led by new musical director Brian Dean Sousa. \nA spring concert is planned for Sunday\, May 3\, at 3:30 p.m.\, honoring the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The program includes Randall Thompson’s “Frostiana” and Aaron Copland’s “Simple Gifts\,” along with spirituals and Americana favorites such as “Down in the River” and “Oh Susannah.” A few sing-alongs are also planned. \nBrian Dean Sousa brings experience in performance and education. He holds degrees from Westminster Choir College and James Madison University. His background includes fourteen years as organist and choir master at Saint Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church in Charlottesville. He now lives in North Dartmouth.
