SUMMARY:Blue Heron in Flight
DESCRIPTION:Adriance Furnituremakers highlights work by local artisans in the Showroom Gallery. Each piece shows the maker’s style. Each one brings character to the space. \nJohn Magnan shifted to art after an early retirement from a technical career. The change led to studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Magnan later earned an MFA in sculpture from UMass Dartmouth. Solo exhibitions have appeared in several locations. Permanent installations stand in hospitals and public spaces. Magnan’s sculpture is also featured at the UMass School of Law. A national collaboration with Eli Lilly and Co. honors clinical trial participants through public art. \nShowroom open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Phone number is 508-993-4800. \n A portion of this sale will be donated to Buzzards Bay Coalition to support efforts to protect the bay. \nAn online portfolio can be viewed at www.johnmagnan.com

SUMMARY:Hand Building with Clay: Beyond the Wheel
DESCRIPTION:Hand Building with Clay: Beyond the Wheel is a four-week ceramics class. It runs Tuesdays\, April 21 through May 12\, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Members: $210. Nonmembers: $235. \nThis class is a strong companion to wheel throwing. It also works as a standalone option. Hand building is slower\, more organic\, and highly expressive. Students work without the wheel and build new skills in form\, texture\, and surface design. \nStudents will make mugs\, plates\, and other functional items. They will also explore molds and hand-sculpted forms not possible on the wheel. The process allows for more detail\, decoration\, and experimental shapes. \nThis class is well-suited for beginners. It is also a good next step for wheel throwers. All materials are included.
