Whale Scroll: One Whale Makes Seven Shores Prosperous
February 11 - June 6

This exhibit is from the New Bedford Free Public Library’s art curator, Allie Copeland. Beginning in the 18th century, Japanese feudal lords who oversaw whaling efforts commissioned emakimono, or picture scroll, to illustrate whale hunting methods as well as anatomically describe the known species of whales.
