Wanda Medina: Maori Inspiration Art Exhibit
February 9 - April 7

This exhibition will be displayed at the Groundwork Gallery from February 9 to April 6. The opening reception is on AHA! Night, Thursday, Feb. 9, from 5–7 p.m.
“This body of work was created at the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, when I was Artist -in-Residence in the summer of 2021. The theme of my Residency was Women in Whaling. While conducting research, I discovered and was inspired by the Maori women of New Zealand, who were navigators and shore whalers. Their influence can be seen in the patterns and vivid colors in the works and also by the starry sky in Celestial Navigation.”
Wanda C. Medina is an accomplished painter. A New Bedford resident and granddaughter of a whaler, Wanda is passionate about the New Bedford community – past, present, and future. Past exhibitions include the New Bedford Art Museum, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and Alison Wells Fine Art Studio.
