The Belle of Amherst
March 24 @ 7:00 pm
$10 – $12
William Luce’s play “The Belle of Amherst” portrays the heartbreak and the joy of American poet Emily Dickinson. Set in her Amherst, MA home, Emily invites the audience into her parlor for an afternoon of tea, black cake, and life stories. She opens her heart and tells the truth… sometimes slant. Her story unfolds seamlessly through the use of her poetry, her diaries, and letters.
Directed by Deacon Maurice Oullette and Assistant Director Lauren Pimentel, and starring senior Sophia Berard (Portsmouth, RI), The Belle of Amherst captures the magic, poetry, and haunting beauty of Dickinson’s works, thoughts, and feelings. A captivating stage set highlights Ms. Dickenson’s musings and gives insight into her life and times.
The Belle of Amherst is the culmination of The Bishop Stang Theatre Company’s celebration of great American women authors, which began with their fall production of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women.
