Share your story: Healthy Neighborhoods Study Open House

May 20 @ 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm

YMCA Southcoast, in partnership with MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and the Conservation Law Foundation, is one of the 9 community organizations in the Commonwealth participating in the Healthy Neighborhoods Study. Our current project is an Open House to share your story at the “Bomb Shelter.” What is the Bomb Shelter you ask? An iconic basement in the south end of New Bedford that became a gathering spot for many generations of Cape Verdeans.

The inaugural event will be held on Saturday, May 20th from 2-6 pm at 243 Acushnet Ave. The YMCA needs your help to help participate in the community contribution to the legacy of this important historical site and share your story.

Help build connections to make a more compassionate, healthy neighborhood and highlight the “bombs” importance of community ownership over change so we can face future challenges together. You can help by sharing your stories and photos and of course by spreading the word – contact Karen Alves Jenkins at 508-991-0610 or Gail Roderigues at 508-996-9622 ext 114.
