Sailing to Freedom: Maritime Dimensions of the Underground Railroad

September is International Underground Railroad Month. The New Bedford Historical Society, New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park, and UMass Dartmouth will commemorate this crucial cultural cornerstone of New Bedford‘s history at the New Bedford Whaling Museum on Friday, Sept. 23.

Contributing authors to the “Sailing to Freedom” volume, keynote speaker Fergus M. Bordewich and other historians will join for a conference examining the historical record and recent research about the maritime Underground Railroad.
