Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Program

January 16 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Community Program will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16, at the Pilgrim United Church of Christ, 635 Purchase St. in New Bedford.

The keynote speaker is Taylor Dumpson, President’s Fellow at the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, and an emerging young leader whose ancestors date back to abolitionists in New Bedford. Dumpson was the first Black woman to serve as president of the Student Government at American University, where she fought back after receiving cyber-harassment following the election. She has testified before Congress and given a TEDx Talk.

The event, which requires masks and social distancing, is sponsored by the City of New Bedford’s Department of Community Services and the New Bedford Human Relations Commission.
