New Bedford City Council

The New Bedford City Council will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 25 in City Council chambers in City Hall.

On the agenda:

  • Four hearings for Eversource to install poles, conduit, handholes, and/or manholes on June Street, Purchase Street, River Road and Nash Road.
  • Submission of a copy of the Final Fiscal Year 2023 Office of Housing and Community Development Action Plan, which sets forth activities by the Community Development Block Grand (CDBG), the Home Investment Partnership (HOME) program and Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program.
  • An ordinance amending Governing Airport Commission membership.
  • An order to transfer $25,000 from Airport (Other Financing Uses) to Airport Capital Outlay.
  • An order transferring $150,000 from Water Salaries and Wages to Water Supplies and Materials.
  • An order transferring $150,000 from Wastewater salaries to Wastewater supplies and materials.
  • Orders transferring $3,000, $1,000 and $2,000 among city clerk accounts.
  • An ordinance to establish two revolving funds for EMS.
  • A recommendation to adopt an ordinance rezoning two plots on Osborn Street from Residential B to Mixed Use Business.
  • A recommendation to adopt an ordinance amending the Marijuana Establishment Hours of Operation.
  • Reappointment of Christopher Amaral to Community Presevation Committee, appointment of Edward C. Anthes-Washburn to the Airport Commission, appointment of Anthony Pais Lopes Jr. as a constable.
  • Approval of Renee DePina for a new private livery license and renewal.
  • Several recommendations to take No Further Action on items.
  • A motion requesting the City Council waive Rule 27 in order to hold Quasi Committee of the Whole meetings on June 5 and June 6.
  • A motion requesting the Committee on Ordinances meet to draft an ordinance that would hinder the availability of gasoline for illegal purposes and address the ongoing public safety issues surrounding operation of all-terrain vehicles, mini-cycles, dirt bikes and other unauthorized motor vehicles.
  • A motion requesting the Special Committee on Memorials and Dedications discuss erecting a dedication plaque honoring Philip C. Pleologos at the corner of Shawmut and Hathaway Road.
  • A motion requesting that Department of Infrastructure take immediate action to address the condition of Ash Street between Union and Arnold Street.
  • A motion requesting the owners of Engineered Industrials Group Inc, Jaime Goulart and Maria C. Goulart of 101 Seymore Street, to discuss their ongoing business practice in a residential neighborhood.
  • A recommendation to allow the demolition of a garage structure at 455 West Clinton Street and a concrete block warehouse structure at 19 Jean Street.
  • A petition to encroach on the city sidewalk for an ADA compliant door at 45-50 Union Street (MDBC Realty).
