Memorial Day Wreath Laying Ceremonies in Westport
May 27 @ 9:00 am

In Westport, five significant places will host ceremonial rituals. In laying wreaths, we honor America’s bravest children and sons who have served in the armed forces.
9 a.m. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post: We start at VFW Post 8502 at 843 State Road.
9:15 a.m. American Legion Post: The second stop is the historic American Legion at 489 Sanford Road.
9:30 a.m. Latessa Square: The third stop is the memorial at the intersection of Tickle Road and Oak Avenue.
10 a.m. Fontaine Bridge: Head south for the fourth stop at the bridge on Route 88.
10:15 a.m. Westport Point: We end at the harbor at the southernmost end of Main Road. The significance of tossing a bouquet into the water is to honor those service members who were lost at sea.
Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 207 honor guard plays TAPS and reads a memorial poem during the Ceremonial Ritual. Wreaths/bouquets are laid and thrown, and the honor guard gives a rifle salute.
At least 10 minutes before the ceremony, anyone who wishes to observe should meet in the VFW parking lot or at whichever location they choose.
