Marine Heatwaves Exhibit
May 23 - December 31

Marine Heatwaves is on view from May 23–December 31 in the museum’s Jacobs Family Gallery.
This installation combines art with oceanography. The exhibit finds a common language between art and science while illustrating the impact of global warming and this recently-discovered ecological phenomenon on our oceans.
Marine Heatwaves features works by visual artist Deb Ehrens in collaboration with Caroline Ummenhofer and Svenja Ryan (oceanographers specializing in climate change from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution). As the kinetic sculptures of this installation spin, viewers can imagine the immense circulating air masses and ocean currents that drive our climate and impact our fisheries, marine ecosystems, and biodiversity.
