First Annual Indoor Mural Slam Competition

The New Bedford Arts and Cultural Emporium invites Southcoast artists ages 18 and up to submit original mural creations.
Submit up to three (3) 5″ X 7 “thumbnail sketches of original artwork with an application for jury. Five selected artists will participate.
A $25 non-refundable application fee must be submitted with each applicant. Each application includes professional jurying of up to three thumbnail sketches.
Applications for jury will be accepted beginning Monday, July 10, through Friday, Aug. 25. Five final contestants will be selected and announced on Friday, Sept. 8.
The chosen contestants will complete one of five 5 x 7-foot murals throughout The Kilburn Mill at designated areas. Each artist will receive a $300 stipend toward materials and supplies. Cash prizes for the final muralist’s winners will be $1,200 for first place; $750 for second place; $350 for third place; and $200 for fourth and fifth place.
Murals will be painted on October 6, 7 and 8. The murals will be opened to the public for the popular vote and the final judging. An awards ceremony and cocktail celebration will take place on Saturday, Oct. 14, at a meet-the-artist cocktail viewing event at the Kilburn Mill. Artists, their families and friends, the judges, and the public are all invited.
