Book launch for ‘Minutes of the Dartmouth: Massachusetts Monthly Meeting 1699-1785’
July 22 @ 12:30 pm

On Saturday, July 22 at 12:30 p.m., at the New Bedford Whaling Museum, the Dartmouth Monthly Meeting of Friends, and the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society and the NBWM will sponsor a ‘book launch celebration” and lunch for the project volunteers and supporters responsible for completing the preservation and publication of the original manuscript Quaker records. This will conclude with a “book signing” also.
For the last several years the Dartmouth Historical and Arts Society has worked, with massive support from volunteers and in partnership with the Colonial Society of Massachusetts, on a project to preserve and publish the minutes of the Dartmouth Monthly Meeting which started to be recorded in 1699 and continue to this day. This project has resulted in the publication of a two volume hardcover book titled “Minutes of the Dartmouth, Massachusetts Monthly Meeting 1699-1785”; the preservation of over 6,000 pages of the minutes by digitizing (photographing) them; the transcription of these manuscripts into ASCII (typewritten) format, faithful to the original records; and posting, both the manuscripts and the transcriptions, for research and review on the society’s website.
The program will include illustrious speakers including the leading Quaker scholar, Thomas D. Hamm; American Society of Genealogists President David C. Dearborn; Field Supervisor & Field Relations Manager for FamilySearch.org, Manuel Sanhueza; and Colonial Society of Massachusetts Curator Elton “Toby” Hall among others.
