May 1 @ 6:30 pm

Free film screening of award winning Cape Verdean American anti-violence activist, film maker, photographer, and community organizer Michael Jo Santos’ film 13 by 3 Mile Problem at the historic Verdean Veterans Memorial Hall- CV Vets Hall on Monday May 1st, 2023

“13 by 3 Mile Problem” is a documentary film exploring the impact that violence has on the mothers and family members of young people murdered in New Bedford Massachusetts.

This powerful film made a significant impact on the community and for period of time helped to reduce the inter community conflict between the west and south end of the city.

It also helped to create changes in the elected leadership in the Bristol County District Attorneys office as the film highlighted the lack of investigation into the deaths of young people of color in New Bedford.

Doors open at 6:30PM film starts at 7:15PM followed by artistic performance by Khepe-Ra Maat and Rudy Ru Cabrera and community panel discussion.

This La Soul Renaissance event is made possible with support of New Bedford Creative’s art is everywhere grant
