Dear readers:

Thanks to your outpouring of support, The New Bedford Light has grown so strong and so vibrant that we are launching a nationwide search for our very first editor-in-chief.

This is a milestone we couldn’t have imagined when we began publishing in June 2021 with a handful of volunteers and freelancers. Would the community rally around our in-depth journalism? Would our stories make a difference? Enough to spur readers to donate?

The answer to all three questions was — and is — a resounding yes. Our journalistic impact has been extraordinary. We’ve eclipsed a million page views on our website. Our monthly visitors have run as high as 60,000.

With that foundation firmly in place, we are now in a position to move confidently into the future with a new generation of newsroom leadership. The editor-in-chief will ensure our high-quality community journalism continues for many years to come.

Our search committee will seek an experienced and adventurous journalist who meets the high standard of excellence we have established. The Light is unique, as is New Bedford. That will not change. Investigative and explanatory stories will continue to abound, providing context and depth. Our commitment to celebrating the region’s lively arts and culture scene will not wane.

Thank you again for supporting community journalism at its best — now, and in the future.
